Do butch women, or masculine lesbians, really want to be men? Learn why butches dress like men and get a men's haircut. Sometimes a rude question is also a sincere one. Thinking about it I suppose many camp gay men do tend to mince when they're walking and many butch lesbians walk with an exaggerated wide stride. Generally, when we think of “butch women”, we think of short hair, flannel, and denim. Butches don't always date femmes just like cheerleaders don't always date the quarterback- but opposites do often attract, and so there are many butch-femme couples. As a lesbian trans woman who prefers feminine women and who presents femme herself, this continues to puzzle me. Not a value judgement though. Why do some lesbian's become so butch? I'm talking about the ones with the boy haircuts, loaded key rings, man clothes and boots, manly swagger etc.
